Tendências da Periferia

Em 2014 o canal nacional, eTV, encomendou ao WFC da África do Sul 26 programas em curta-metragem para seu próximo canal comunitário, e-Kasi+

Este foi um grande desafio para a equipe do WFC em Khayelitsha, mas eles conseguiram.

Os programas em curta-metragem foram concebidos para revelar a cor, criatividade e vitalidade das periferias (townships) da Cidade do Cabo e dividir isso com a audiência nacional. A equipe encontrou vinte e seis histórias interessantes para contar: de empreendedorismo, arte, música, moda - o que você imaginar, eles mostraram.

A riqueza e originalidade dentro dessas comunidades, especialmente entre os jovens, era impressionante. Existem tantas coisas acontecendo. Muitos jovens estão abrindo negócios, realizando sarais de poesia, festivais de música, abrindo hotéis, discotecas, barraquinhas de comida, criando tendências de dança, de moda - descobrir tudo isso foi um processo revigorante.

O WFC ficou orgulhoso de ter treinado e possibilitado uma produtora de cinema em Khayelitsha para fazer mídia nacional que mostrou suas comunidades de uma forma tão nova, honesta e positiva. Foi a realização do objetivo principal do WFC e motivo para celebração.

Until recently tattoos have been associated with gangsterism and crime in eKasi, which has prevented many from getting inked. Lately there has been a rise in young people getting tattoos. This film examines the growing trend and new tattoo parlours opening in the area.

Heads and Raps

South Africa has seen a strong growth in interest in Hip Hop music and the emergence of the underground scene is very strong. Heads and Raps takes a look at the underground Hip Hop scene that’s providing SA’s youth with inspiration whilst advancing the movement.

Kasi Riders

This film follows the bike riders in eKasi and the increasing racing scene.

Walking the Grill

Imagine a snack so delicious that people try to push their way to the front of the line because they want it right away. For many people in SAs townships, that snack is grilled chicken feet.
