Township Highlights for eTV

In 2014 national broadcaster, eTV, commissioned WFC South Africa to make 26 short programmes for their upcoming community channel, e-Kasi+

This was a huge challenge for the WFC team in Khayelitsha but they made it work.

The short programmes were intended to reveal the colour, creativity and vibrancy of the Cape Town townships and to share this with a national audience. The team found twenty-six exciting stories to tell: of entrepreneurship, art, music, fashion – you name it, they showed it.

The richness and originality inside these communities, especially among the youth, was overwhelming. There is so much going on. Many young people are starting businesses, running poetry events, festivals, opening hotels, nightclubs, food stalls, starting dance trends, fashion trends – discovering all of this was a constantly invigorating process.

WFC was proud to have trained and enabled a production company within Khayelitsha to make national media that showed their community in a such a fresh, honest and positive light. It was the fulfillment of WFC’s founding goals and a cause for celebration.
